Originally constructed in the 20th century as a facility for the production of ammonia, 65 Heward has since been re-purposed for the film and television industry. Located close to Leslieville and Queen Street East the site includes a loft-style building and two sound stages. Cumulus was engaged by Kevric to transform Building A into an open and collaborative workspace that is flexible and adaptable to a variety of future user needs.

Our design takes the building back to base, revealing the original brick and exposed timber structure to create a warm and welcoming space. Large windows have been added to maximize daylight exposure. A new addition provides expanded space to the second floor unit.

The previous space depended on closed off stair wells for movement between floors. With the renovation the two floors are now be connected by walkways and an open staircase to optimize circulation and bring daylight into the core. An elevator, barrier free washroom and shower facilities as well as a new universal washroom increase accessibility.
